PizzArepas

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 6 cups of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

You will also need a variety of toppings, so you can let your family and friends fix their own pizzarepas. For the pizza sauce, in a pan add the olive oil, and cook the onion and garlic for about 5 minutes, then add the tomatoes, bay leaf, salt and  pepper to taste.  Let it cook in medium heat for at least one hour. Let’s make our arepa dough as we usually do, but this time, the arepas are going to be very very thin, like a pizza. We put them on the griddle until they create a crust on each side. Now it’s time to assemble each pizzarepa! Heat the oven to 425 degrees and cook the pizzarepas for about 8 minutes. We take them out of the oven and buon appetito!
